Keeping It Simple

Idra Trench Coat, Cotélac Sweater, J Crew Matchstick Cropped Jeans and Corso Como Pumps

“Style is how you see the world and how the world sees you. It isn’t today and it isn’t tomorrow; it isn’t a dress or a car or a shoe or a comment—it’s the cut of your sail as you cross this crazy, uncharted sea. Far ahead, legions of boats have already made the crossing—some grander, some more sleek—and still newer boats are always coming up behind you. Style is the manner in which you navigate your one remarkable voyage.” - Carol Edgarian

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. Here are a few pictures taken in between meeting with my tailors and running a few errands before I head out of town later today. I spent Saturday morning reviewing inspiration images, working up sketches, pouring over fabrics, discussing fit and style- ultimately coming up with my vision for the “perfect” shirt. Both tailors pointed out that I looked exactly the same, but we still took plenty of measurements to ensure a perfect fit. Now, I just have to wait patiently over the next few months.
This is my version of a weekend uniform that’s suitable for errands and appointments during the warmer months. Thank goodness for uniforms! Especially when uniforms allow you to look polished and pulled together when you’re feeling anything but. I’ve been on antibiotics since the weekend due to a very resistant office bug, but managed somehow to pull it together.

I adore trench coats (I have such a thing for coats) and always look forward to the weather warming up enough to wear my bracelet and ¾ length sleeve coats. I have a few classic trenches, so this coat is a nice change.

The Corso Como pumps are deserving of a post of their own. I’m discerning when it comes to shoes, but Corso Como does a comfortable, well-crafted shoe at a very reasonable price- proving that quality doesn’t have to be expensive. Most importantly, there’s a consciousness with regards to the manufacturing process and the treatment of employees that is important to me.

  1. I love those shoes! Almost wish I needed an extra pair of heels so I could justify getting them ;) But Indian pavements are just not kind to skinny heels, so my Marc wedges get the most wear.

You look lovely and chic as always - I owe you an email - soon I promise!

  2. Ammu- Thank you!

I know exactly what you mean about the pavements. Wedges are perfect for that and so chic. These are only my second pair of Corso Comos, but they're so well-made. A friend's mom who owned a designer shoe store introduced them to me years ago. I was looking for a nude heel to replace a pair that had seen better days for such a long time.

Oh no worries about the email:) I look forward to hearing from you.

  3. You look great! I love the white jeans with the navy trench — a truly classic combination.

I've finally succumbed to buying IM dicker-esque ankle boots with a low heel just because they seem so practical.

    1. G- Thank you- that's so sweet!

I love white jeans with my navy trenches- it's so classic!

I know exactly what you mean about the IM Dickers. At one point this spring, I couldn't set foot outside without seeing them everywhere, but they're still so great;)

  4. Perfect casual outfit. Seeing outfits like these make my wonder why people run around in Uggs and sweatpants to run errands, I'm pretty sure it took you the same amount of time to slip on this outfit as they did...

    1. koko // res pulchrae- Thank you! It's so true- it doesn't take that much effort to look casual but pulled together. I just can't do yoga pants, uggs and the like- it just kills my soul.

  5. I'm starting to sound like a broken record but your outfits never fail to impress me. They're always feminine, sophisticated and polish. I fell in love with Cotelac when I was in Paris. Too bad they haven't cross over the Channel yet. The French fashion, particularly the more affordable lines like Sandro, Maje, Zadig & Voltaire, Etoile Isabel Marant, The Kooples are doing remarkably well here.

    1. Chocolate, Cookies & Candies- Thank you- You'll never be a broken record;)

I love Cotelac for easy weekend wear. I was first introduced by a cute french boutique in my area that carries some of the knitwear. The owner is this chic french woman who goes to Paris and Provence every few months and brings back the most wonderful things. Cotelac must come to the UK- it's crazy that you guys don't have it.

  6. Love white jeans, they are in my shopping list for this summer, perfect with the stripes. You look perfectly polished : ) I am with Ammu about heels, I twisted my ankles so many times (sports are bad...) I feel better in flats, but I love Corso Como pumps.

    1. lunaday- Thank you! Oh, I can't wait to see your white jeans and how you pair them. White jeans look so polished.

Sports injuries are bad. It's definitely worth it to be comfortable and not exasperate the situation. Plus flats are so cute.

  8. Lindsay! You look lovely in your "uniform". I wish my uniform looked as polished as yours! Hope you are feeling better and enjoy your trip! Thank you for the quick review on Corso Como. I've seen them around multiple times, but wasn't sure about the quality. Will have to find a beautiful pair of cap toe heels now!

  10. You have such great taste- this is perfection. White jeans are so hard to pull off, but you do beautifully. I really like what you said about responsible manufacturing- it's so hard to find affordable brands that think about responsibility, sustainability, treating employees fairly. I love that you think about these things and write about them so eloquently.

    1. Ina- Thank you. I'm truly humbled.

Finding the the perfect pair of white jeans (or any jeans for that matter) is hard but worth the exercise in patience.

You're so right about finding companies whose beliefs you respect. It's a very personal thing, but it matters a lot to me.

  11. I'm so bad at hot weather that I find a summer uniform to be essential too, and yours is the perfect mix of being casual while still maintaining a streamlined look. Also great choice with the white jeans- so fresh! I've been looking for some heels that won't break the bank so I'll have to give Corso Como a try.

    1. ACrispWhiteShirt- Warm weather dressing is hard. It hit mid 90s here for a few days in a row and all I can say is my goodness. I'm always surprised by warm weather attire.

I find it much harder to be casual and streamlined.

Corso Como does a really great quality shoe and the price is pretty unbelieveable. I got compliments on them all weekend.

  12. Love your uniform. Simple and polished.

Love the sleeves on your coat, too.

I'm currently wearing (to death!) a sleeveless khaki trench. It goes with everything - I just can't take it off!

I'm such a sucker for a sleeve detail.

Oh a sleeveless khaki trench sounds wonderful. I like those subtle details that make a trench unique.

  13. Really fabulous coat and I love the white pants on you! I'd thought about buying some white pants when I was shopping earlier this week, but I was kind of scared off by the maintenance. I'm the kind of girl who just wears her jeans until they're so stretched that they slip right off without even unbuttoning or unzipping haha. I can't imagine that happening for white pants!

    1. 0000- Thank you!

White pants would look great on you. You should take the plunge;)

So funny about your jeans. I have such a hard time searching for jeans (who doesn't) which is probably why I almost exclusively wear skirts. I feel like I've finally mastered my own laundress process for keeping them clean. I can't stand dingy whites.
