Little Happy List #4

My Personal Photo

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. I think we’re long overdue for a Little Happy List. They’re always a joy to write and I hope you enjoy reading them as well. Here’s to happiness!

Gardens and Outdoor Spaces
I’m fortunate to live in such close proximity to so many well-maintained outdoor spaces. There’s nothing like the solace of a quick walk through a gorgeous garden- even better now that everything is in bloom.

Peonies

Peonies might be my favorite flower of all time, second only to my love of Gardenias. Early spring when Peonies first appear brings great joy. Spring means visiting the flower district to fill my home with beautiful blooms at a fraction of the cost of visiting a florist.

L’Occitane Honey Hand Cream
L’Occitane’s Honey Hand Cream is one of my small luxuries at the moment. Keeping my skin hydrated is my greatest skincare concern. In addition to keeping my hands well moisturized- this cream smells delightful and makes me feel instantly relaxed at work.

Bespoke Shirts
My tailor is coming to New York later in the month. I was delighted when a handwritten note in a vintage airmail envelope arrived. I’m dreaming of cotton voile, peter pan collars and short puff sleeves.

Acknowledgements
Outside of academia, acknowledgements are an afterthought. I will receive an acknowledgement in a book that I’m extremely excited about. It’s a book that will make a lovely giveaway. Now we just have to wait until October… I’m truly humbled.

What’s making you happy?

PS- I couldn't resist the pink Schiaparelli boxes on Met Ball Monday

  1. I share your love for beautiful flowers. I started growing them myself this year - sunflowers, baskets of tiny colourful ones, violets, lavender. I baby them every day so I suppose they make my happy list this spring.

    1. Florina- There's nothing like beautiful flowers to brighten the day. Sunflowers are so cheery. I love that you take such good care of them.

  2. My partner and I have both crashed down to reality after a month long holiday... At the moment though helping each other cook a lovely meal and then eating it at the dining table together is keeping us somewhat sane. Nothing like good home cooked food to keep the spirits up.
Also cuddling our purring kitties each night is wonderfully relaxing.

    1. catssaymeow- I hope you had a wonderful trip to NYC. I think you did some shopping and I can't wait to see what you ended up with.

Aww... there's something really sweet and conforting about a home cooked meal. How lovely.

  3. Oh, I love peonies and all things bespoke. Such a luxury.
My happy list includes a weekly dinner date with a close friend at a fabulous new French restaurant. Love the chatter, the delicious food, and the happy regularity of our meetings.
Also, the scent of fresh jasmine infusing the air - a sign that summer is here and that the arrival of fresh mangoes into the market can't be too far off! Mangoes are my favourite fruit.
Guerlain kohl - a great summer alternative to my usual 'red lipstick' look. Those little containers are just so beautiful.

    1. Ammu- I know exactly what you mean- I consider peonies and bespoke items to be such luxuries that make me happy.

How fun to have a standing date with a good friend at a wonderful restaurant. Meetups with friends make the week fly by.

Fresh jasmine scenting the air sounds so romantic- I love it. Fresh mangoes are so good- I try to eat them as much as I can when they're in season.

Guerlain containers are so beautiful- they package their product in such an artful way. I'm big on playing up lips or eyes, but not both at once- so I love this.

  4. Congratulation on the acknowledgment, that sounds exciting for you! I too love peonies and I am so happy I can finally find them at my florist again. Other then that, just enjoying the sun in the park with a take-away latte in one hand and my boyfriend in the other. I love this time of year.

    1. Jenny- Thank you! It is exciting. I can't wait for it to come out. It's good to be a part (regardless of how small) of something that you're genuinely excited about.

It's such a short season when peonies are at their peak. I'm glad you're taking full advantage and enjoying them.

Aww... That sounds so sweet. It's nice when you can go back to enjoying parks and refreshments. Such a beautiful time of year.

  5. Things that are making me happy: Spring, a job that constantly throws new challenges at me and forces me out of my comfort zone, good friends, and quiet hours in the sofa with a good book. I also might have started the process of maybe, perhaps, adopting a dog.. maybe. Awaiting the go-ahead from landlord and neighbors while biting my nails.. :)

I am such a fan of L’Occitane’s hand cream, but I've never tried the honey one! Will definitely give it a go the next time I need to re-stock!

    1. Maja H- I love your list. A career that challenges you and forces you out of your comfort zone is what we all hope for. That's so great that you've found such inspiring work!

Good friends and books always make me happy. Aww... that's so sweet that you're in the process of adopting a dog. I hope that goes well and that the landlord says yes:)

I love the original L’Occitane formula. They have a honey and lemon one too, but this one is limited edition. I really hope they rethink that.

  8. I love it when credit is given where it's due because that rarely happens. How exciting! Don't forget to share when the book hits the shelves. I find myself nodding my head in agreement over the little things that make you happy. L'Occitane is fantastic. I'm still blown away by the guided tour we were taken to at Charvet, thanks to the lovely and gracious sales associate there.

    1. Chocolate, Cookies & Candies- I know! It's said that it's rare to give credit when it's due.

L'Occitane is really great. It's just what my hands need:)

You are so lucky to have been given a guided tour at Charvet. I love the passion that they have and the idea that luxury can go hand in hand with an experience.

    1. Aqua Genie- Sometimes we all need a little reminder to pause. It's so easy to get caught up in the daily grind.

Oh how fun about Mama Mia. I love breaking up the work week with something like that. I hope you enjoyed your evening:)

  10. Gardens and outdoor spaces - I never so appreciated them until I came to the States. Public gardens/parks here are so beautiful. I love that I keep discovering new ones, too.

Being outdoors as Spring takes hold makes me happy. I know Winter was mild this year, but I'm still very happy to be outside, in a dress and bare legs!

    1. Alice Olive- I know what you mean. The gardens and outdoor spaces are such a beautiful break from urban life and there are so many. I feel such joy when I discover new places.

It feels good to be outside. You're right about winter, even though it was mild it doesn't take the place of spring.
