Style Essentials- A Preface

Tabitha Simmons via Into the Gloss

One of the great privileges of writing this blog has been all of the feedback, tips and words of wisdom from readers that I’ve received. My dear friend, Dead Fleurette said it best “never stop learning” from each other, books, the world, etc. Sharing is a big part of that.

Over the past few months, I’ve received a number of emails on my Style Essentials. I know I’ve said it before, but style and identity are so intricately intertwined and personal. I can’t wait to share my timeless and beloved essentials that have served their purpose as pillars of my wardrobe. I hope you will share some of your favorites as well.

No conversation on style essentials can commence without mentioning one of my all time favorites- the smile. There’s something so infectious and endearing about a genuine smile. It's sacrosanct in the world of high fashion to be moody, but to me, positivity is always stylish.

The talented stylist, editor and designer, Tabitha Simmons exemplifies the positivity that’s such a rarity in fashion. Every time that I’ve stumbled upon her at events or a runway show, she’s genuinely smiling or laughing. I can’t think of a more beautiful thing.

* PS- I enjoyed this recent article on Tabitha’s design and business philosophies.

  1. I can't wait to read posts about your style essentials!

Moodiness might look cool for an evening, but a smile will attract more people to you - people who might very well be great and want to stick around for a while. I'm one of those people who tend to freeze up a bit and feel awkward in larger social gatherings, but I find that as long as I at least look happy and have a smile on my face, I'll end up chatting away with someone anyway. I could never pull off "moody" - teamed with my introversion I'd come off downright hostile ;)

    1. Maja H.-Aww... I hope they live up to your expectations:)

It's so true about moodiness. I can't pull it off either. It's so interesting to see how people misread introversion and shyness.

  2. What a sweet post :) That's a lovely picture of Tabitha Simmons. It's one of the reasons I love Yasmin Sewell's style as well - of course she dresses very elegantly, but every time I have seen her, whether in magazines or in real life, she exudes happiness.

  3. Wonderfully said! I definitely agree, with personal style, as with all things, attitude is key. How can a person not be endeared towards someone's style when they radiate positivity? I can't wait to see what you have in store.

  4. I couldn't agree more, Lindsay. The fashion industry can be a very superficial world where friendships are based on what one can do for another. I loved the interview. It really shows the down to earth nature of Tabitha Simmons. I've always thought that first impression counts but then it's how you make others feel that takes precedence above everything else.

    1. Chocolate, Cookies & Candies- I loved the interview too. It felt like such a breathe of fresh air from the standard run of the mill interview. Having the ability to make others feel good is such a gift.
