A Little Reminder

My Personal Photo

Just a little reminder to enjoy the present. Over the weekend I was doing just that when I came across these sunflowers. I have a weakness for gardens and landscapes. I couldn't help but think that summer is not over yet. I'm intent on enjoying the carefree season. Don't get me wrong, September and October are absolutely breathtaking in New York. Early autumn when you can still linger outside is one of my favorite times of year.

While I love early autumn, I've had fall on my mind since February. It all starts with the collections and quickly intensifies into a life of its' own. For better or worse the seasons are rushed. We barely reached summer and Pre-Fall hit stores. It's all very cyclical, but that's all the more reason why it's import to savour the now. The last few weeks have been busy, but it's always important to take time out to enjoy the little things.

  1. You seem to have read my mind. Today while getting breakfast with a few friends we realized that one week from today we will be on the other side of the country completing our first day of classes. As much as I feel frustrated at times by summer weather and am anxious for autumn to begin, it was a reminder to appreciate these last few carefree (and hectic) days of summer.

  2. I so agree with you. I keep worrying about how summer is going to end and how fall is coming already. As much as I love fall, I can't help but feel that it's a precursor to the much dreaded winter. I really REALLY hate winter. The snow is nice and all but once you hit mid January you're just sick of the stuff. I wish I would stop worrying and "live in the moment".

  3. What a gorgeous picture!

I agree, much as I find myself waiting for winter, it's far better to appreciate the present. Something I am still working on learning how to do!

  4. I think learning to enjoy the present is a skill we can all afford to give a bit more practice to, especially in our often hectic lifestyles. I am in Australia, so our winter here is just coming to an end. There is that first hint of warmth in the air, and it is nice to enjoy it now as the heat will arrive soon enough.

I apologise that I have been stalking this blog for a while, but had not yet posted any comments. . . your take on style and effortless beauty inspires me; just lovely :)

  5. Austere- Breakfast with friends sounds lovely. It must seem like the summer flew by, but I hope you are enjoying the last few carefree days before the rush starts. Best of luck settling back into the school routine.

Joy- I am the same way. I dread winter and spend a lot of the fall thinking about how cold it’s going to be. I’m just not a cold weather or snow person. After the holidays I’m ready for warmer days. I think the fact that winter went on forever this year makes everyone feel like summer was far too short. I’m a work in progress when it comes to living in the moment too.

    Ammu- Thank you.

You winter sounds so refreshing! As a meticulous planner and perfectionist it’s so hard to appreciate the present. I’m working on this too, but hoping that as I grow my outlook will change.

    Maja Piraja- :)

Emily- You are so right. Our hectic lifestyles make it really hard to enjoy the present. The first hint of warm air is always exciting. I hope you are enjoying it.

It’s refreshing and humbling to hear that you’re enjoying the blog. It’s humbling that you find the blog inspiring. Thank you for sharing that.

  9. I am very much enjoying the gorgeous blue skies we're having in the run up to spring here. Plenty of time to laze about and smell the roses so to speak. I have to keep reminding myself to enjoy it all.
