Mikimoto Drop Pearl Earrings with Diamonds

Mikimoto Pearl Stud Earrings with Diamond

Growing up I wore pearl earrings. A simple pair of child-sized pearl studs may have been my very first pair of earrings. At a young age I fell in love with fine jewelry, however somewhere along the way I stopped wearing pearls. Pearls felt too grown up or conservative to my younger self. I rediscovered pearls after attending a university where they were de rigueur.

Plain pearl studs and strands don't do it for me. I like jewelry that's understated, but with details that make it feel special. I love a pair of pearl studs with a gemstone for day or a pair of drop earrings for evening. I'm also partial to the Lanvin silk ribbon, tulle and satin pearl necklaces. I prefer creme-colored or silvery hues to stark white pearls. Recently black South Sea pearls caught my eye.

There's something undeniably pulled together about pearls. When it comes to pearls I'm loyal to Mikimoto. Mikimoto pearls have the most luminous luster and surface perfection. The earrings above are my pearls of choice for evening and daytime respectively. I can see both pairs of earrings becoming heirloom pieces. They are an easy way to look refined. I find myself standing up a bit straighter in my pearls. Style avec class indeed.

  2. Mikimoto pearls are lovely. I have two mikimoto necklaces in cream, a single strand which my grandfather bought decades ago on a trip to japan, and a triple strand which my grandmother got made using the loose pearls he picked up.
I like the lanvin ribbon necklaces, am just a bit iffy about buying them since they all seem to use fake glass pearls. Feels like a lot to pay for a relatively simple design using fake stones. I would rather buy more complex costume pieces, something from Mawi or Marni instead. Or even a different Lanvin piece.
Your earrings are beautiful, so elegant!

  3. Ammu- The mikimoto strands are the best. I like the triple strands. I think it's the drama and opulence of the triple strands that I like. I like that pearls are meant to be worn. I get a bit nervous about some of my jewelry being to precious to wear all the time.

That's the same thing that makes me iffy about the Lanvin necklaces. I like that they have the ribbon because I'm allergic to the metals that are used in a lot od costume jewlery. I really have to stick to sterling silver, platinum, 14 or 18 karat gold, otherwise too much nickel makes me itchy.

I love the Marni pieces- they are so interesting. I think they can really make an outfit. I haven't looked at Mawi in a while. I need to check them out again.

  6. I couldn't agree more - I love to wear jewelry. Not a ton, usually just one piece for day, but it makes the outfit.

Of course, I know what you mean about "too precious to wear" - my parents still won't let me get my paws on some heirloom pieces - there's a beautiful natural pearl set (necklace, earrings, bracelet) left by my paternal grandmother that's still in the bank. Each time I visit my father's ancestral place I try to convince him to let me wear it, and each time I fail miserably. Someday.

  7. Ammu- You are so right. When it comes to jewelry I think less is more. It's all about restraint for day.

Your natural pearl set sounds beautiful. Pieces like that are so fun to pull out and look at:)

  8. totally agree, these are so simple but perfect to pass down to daughters or nieces. for necklaces i prefer opera lengths to chokers - theres just something a bit more relaxed about them. (maybe i just look too uptight!) black south sea pearls are stunning, i have a drop set that never fails to garner compliments.

  9. I love opera lengeth strands. I like them doubled or tripled. I'm not a huge fan of chokers on me. Anything too tight around the neck irritates me.

Black south sea pearls are so stunning. I'm a big fan of drops for evening.

  10. i've always loved pearl studs. i only wear stud earrings, actually, as i'm a little paranoid about dangly hook earrings that are heavy and may get pulled out of my ear!

i'll wear pearls now, and when i'm old. it goes with every outfit at every age!

  11. Miss Sophie- I only wear studs too. If I do wear a drop, then it has to be a stud. I worry about anything with a hook or hoop getting caught on things. Also my ears are small and with my facial structure a stud looks much better than anything dangly.

I agree with you- the great thing about pearls is that they are timeless. You can wear them at every age. It comforts me to know that they are classics that I will enjoy forever.

  16. When you wear pearls you immediately look so chic. That's why I love them!
Unfortunately I look too much old when I wear it, so I don't have pierced ears.

  17. Camille S.- I think so too. Even if I'm wearing something basic I feel more polished with them on. I don't think I would have pierced ears if I had to do it now. Thankfully I had them pierced young, because it makes me nervous.
