Summer Thoughts

My Personal Photo

“In summer, the song sings itself.” – William Carlos Williams

A few months ago, I picked up another pair of K. Jacques. When I find something that speaks to me aesthetically and fits- I keep going back to it. I smile every time I steal a glimpse of these sandals in my closet.

We all know how much I love a well-made and gorgeous pair of shoes, but it’s not the sandals themselves that make me smile. It’s the idea of throwing caution to the wind and enjoying life’s beautiful little moments. Perhaps, I long to be a bit more carefree- to be; instead of constantly doing.

Sandals that are waiting to be worn to perfection are a reminder to leave the office before sunset (it never happens, but I can dream) or to linger over dinner alfresco on a terrace or rooftop. They’re the subtle nudge to head out to the Hamptons for the change of pace at the end of a long week.

Currently, I’m pairing my sandals with dresses in breathable fabrics- my version of casual perfection on days away from the office. The beautiful navy color (I can’t get enough of all things navy) compliments my wardrobe and is a nice alternative to the tan leather and gold handmade sandals that I’ve been living in.

One thing that I cannot say enough, is to fill your wardrobe with things that you love and enjoy wearing. Pieces that you feel good spending your money on... Whether it’s a piece of jewelry that has been passed along to me, or a newer treasure- I genuinely enjoy the wardrobe I'm building.

  1. Lovely post and lovely shoes. You had me at navy - except for black shoes and red lipstick, I am entirely dressed in shades of navy and lapiz today :)

Learning to enjoy being in the moment has been one of the great lessons of my life in India. I don't want to miss the pleasures of the journey, racing from one goal to another.

Thought of you and Lin this morning - just ordered copies of A Guide to Elegance and I Love Your Style from shopbop - been meaning to get them both for a while and today seemed like a good day to take the plunge x

    1. Ammu- How chic you must look! You know how much I love navy with black- simply gorgeous. I really like lapiz stones- so pretty. Red lipstick is all you need to polish it off:)

What a great life lesson to learn. I'm not sure that there's anywhere better to learn it than in a country like India. My best guy friend (who is also far wiser and older than I) used to always talk about the pleasure of the journey and I would kind of half listen, but I'm begining to understand a bit more.

Let me know how you find both books. I find myself going back to A Guide to Elegance from time to time and finding something new to take away. I think Amanda Brooks did a good job with I Love Your Style- she wasn't the right fit for the Barneys job, but she was onto something with that book.

    2. I never considered I Love Your Style until Lin wrote a glowing review of it. I hope it lives up to it. A Guide to Elegance sounds like my kind of book, I have been planning to read it forever. Will let you know what I think once the package arrives.

    3. Ammu- I probably wouldn't have read I Love Your Style right away, but Amanda's team was kind enough to send me an advance copy as a thank you for steering them in the right direction on a few things- so nice and completely unnecessary.

I really think you'll love A Guide to Elegance. Can't wait to discuss.

    1. Meera- Thank you! I always love when the seasons change and you get to pull out that favorite item that you love once again. It really makes me feel good to know that I didn't settle for "almost what I was looking for." Every wardrobe needs a few things that stir the soul.

It's o true about sandals- not sure how anyone cannot love them. They're also beautiful for showing off a nice pedicure, which is my favorite way to relax during the summer:)

  3. Totally agree with filling your wardrobe with items you love. These are the things that make you walk taller and smile. Maybe it sounds corny, but you can't help but radiate when you're feeling good. I receive the most compliments when I'm wearing the items I truly love. (Not that it's about getting compliments from others, but I think that backs up what I'm trying to say here!)

I've been living in my K Jacques on the weekend, too. They're the opposite of Work!

    1. Alice Olive- I know exactly what you mean about it sounding corny. I was thinking about it while I writing. It's a little thing, but you're so right loving what's in your wardrobe really does make you walk taller and smile.

I love the routine of just sitting in my closet and thinking about the day and selecting something that suits it.

It's true about compliments. When you're unsure of something or not loving it for whatever reason there's just something you project. I think people are drawn to people who radiate that feel good feeling. It's contagious.

The K. Jacques are the opposite of work. They instantly make me feel a bit more relaxed.

  5. These K Jacques Picon sandals are my favorite. Great for shorties like me who really need leg lengthening flats. I've tried gladiators but they just look odd on me.

    1. Chocolate, Cookies & Candies- I love the K Jacques Picon sandals- they're my favorite K Jacques too. I don't know how they do it, but they do lengthen legs for sure. I love your yellow ones.

  6. Hi Lindsay, the K Jacques are so pretty and useful! I have always thought that my first pair would be in tan but the navy is swaying me. Are these the Velvet Tiburon (material) on their website?

Sandals with dresses in breathable fabrics sounds so me..lol Would love to see an outfit as inspiration if you have the time:)

    Enjoy your summer days!

    1. Eileen- Hi! The K Jacques are really pretty and useful. I love flat sandals in tan- so versatile. Since I have tan Melissinos and Rondinis in tan I had to branch out to color. I've found the color really versatile.

They're the nubuck in ocean, but the color is a much deeper more saturated navy hue than the website shows. The nubuck leather is really soft too.

Dresses in breathable fabrics are the only ways to beat the heat and humidity. Yes, will try to post some outfit inspiration soon:)

  7. how do these run? thanks!

    1. Anonymous- They run very narrow, which works really well for me since I have a very narrow foot, but an arch.

I think most people find that they run small and you may need to go up a size. I've even seen people have to go up two.

  8. What a nice change to see something in navy instead of the usual black. They do look lovely indeed but I have wide feet and when I have tried on anything similar, I'm afraid they do nothing for me. I imagine they suit you very well as you are slim and petite. In my working days, I used to wear navy and black together and thought nothing of it until years later where I read something about the two not being a good pairing. However, I liked the combination at the time and I still do now.

    1. Sue- I love navy. You're so right about it being nice to see an alternative to black. I think navy and black are such a polished combination. You must have looked amazing in it.

My feet are really narrow, so the it was great to find a sandal at last that works. I constantly hear women say that these types of sandals don't work for wider feet, which is such a shame. I wish designers would design with more widths in mind.

  9. So true - if something appeals to you stick to that!
I love the K Jacques aesthetic wise too. So perfect! I still haven't invested in a pair as I need to try them on to be sure about the fit. It's sandals but still I need to be sure. :)

    1. Ginta- There's always a reason why I keep returning to the same things.

The K Jacques are great! I know exactly what you mean about needing to try things on. I'm the same way. I do very little online shopping because I usually have to try things on.

  14. Love the K. Jacques! I bought my first pair this spring, and each time that I wear them, I'm struck again by how soft the leather is, and how well shaped and comfortable they are for a simple leather sandal. I have never found a shoe or sandal with no cushioning in the sole to comfortable before this pair.

    1. Petrichore- There are few products that I rave about but the k Jacques are the real deal. So comfortable and worth the price. I think a lot of times people don't get it until they try them. I'm glad to hear that they worked out for you too:)
